Based off their PR response to the backlash, it's 100% Cuphead and nowhere else. Now look at where Enchanted Portals took its inspiration from. You can try to argue the Epic Mickey comparison, but that only makes the point that Studio MDHR built upon it, not just took it as-is. Blazing Chrome is far more unapologetic in that regard, but that is very much filling a gap. but there hasn't been a new, quality 2D Contra in years. At best, you can try and argue that it's a re-skinned Contra clone.
But the combination of everything is what made Cuphead "Cuphead". Of course Cuphead didn't invent the art style, music style, or even play style. Yeah - the likeless goes way beyond the similar but lesser art-style. They borrowed elements from previous works, as all creators have done since the beginning of time. So why all that blatant "stealing" is totally OK in the case of Cuphead, and evil plagiarism in the case of Enchanted Portals?
